August is full-blown summer. Long sunny days. Warm evenings. That irresistible urge to pack your suitcase and go. Whether you’re after Mediterranean heat, fresh mountain air or something tropical and exotic, this is your chance to make August 2025 unforgettable.
The school holidays are in full swing. The beaches are buzzing. The world is awake with colour, sunshine and energy. But the trick is knowing where to go to make the most of it. So here’s my round-up of where is hot, where is heavenly and where is worth every second of your precious summer.
Let’s find the spot that suits you best.
Côte d’Azur, France
Average temperature: 28°C
Sunshine: around 10 hours a day
There’s something effortlessly elegant about the French Riviera in August. Think designer sunglasses, pastel coloured towns, rosé by the sea and a soft breeze coming off the Med. Stay in chic hotspots like St Tropez or Cannes for that glam beach club vibe, or escape to the peaceful countryside around Grasse and Provence where you can enjoy lavender fields, local markets and vineyard lunches.
Perfect for couples, luxury seekers or anyone who fancies a slice of summer sophistication.
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Average temperature: 30°C
Sunshine: around 10 hours a day
This is Italy at its most iconic. Sorrento, Positano, Ravello, and Amalfi itself. In August, it all glows in the sunshine. Picture yourself drifting between lemon groves and luxury hotels, dipping in and out of boutique shops, then watching the sun set over the sea with a glass of prosecco in hand. Yes, it’s popular, but the charm here never wears off. And I know where to find the quieter corners.
Perfect for honeymooners, food lovers and those who love a dramatic view.
Mallorca, Spain
Average temperature: 30°C
Sunshine: up to 11 hours a day
Mallorca shines in August. Yes, it gets busy, but step away from the main resorts and you’ll find peaceful coves, pine scented hillsides and stylish fincas tucked in the countryside. Private villas with pools are a brilliant option here. Or take a boat trip around the coast and discover beaches you can only reach from the water. Neighbouring Menorca is quieter and ideal for families.
Perfect for a relaxed escape with the option of adventure.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Average temperature: 29°C
Sunshine: around 10 hours a day
Dubrovnik is stunning in the sunshine. Walk the ancient city walls early in the morning before the crowds arrive, then spend the day swimming off the Dalmatian coast. You can take day trips to nearby islands or enjoy long evenings at waterfront restaurants overlooking the Adriatic. Croatia in August is alive with energy and beauty.
Perfect for couples, culture seekers and anyone who loves a mix of history and sea.
The Greek Islands
Average temperature: 32°C
Sunshine: around 12 hours a day
Greece is everything in August. Golden light, endless blue skies, whitewashed houses and sparkling sea. Whether you’re heading for lively Crete or looking for total peace on islands like Paxos or Naxos, you’ll find incredible food, laid-back living and enough sunshine to fill your soul. I can find you a private villa with a pool, a sea view suite or a traditional guesthouse hidden away from the crowds.
Perfect for romance, slow living and total sunshine bliss.
Cyprus
Average temperature: 35°C
Sunshine: around 12 hours a day
Cyprus sizzles in August. It’s one of the hottest spots in Europe, so it’s best if you love the heat. The beaches are fantastic and the sea is warm and calm. You’ve got lively resorts if you’re after nightlife, and quieter coastal villages for a more authentic feel. There are ancient ruins to explore, mountain villages to wander and so many local flavours to try.
Perfect for sun worshippers and history lovers alike.
The Alps

Average temperature: 24°C
Sunshine: around 8 hours a day
Not everyone wants the heat. If you’re looking for fresh air, quiet trails and space to breathe, the Alps in August are magical. This is the time to swap flip flops for walking boots and explore alpine meadows, crystal clear lakes and charming villages. Whether you’re in Switzerland, France, Austria or northern Italy, the views are something else and the weather is beautifully comfortable.
Perfect for nature lovers, active couples and those who need a cool down.
Koh Samui, Thailand
Average temperature: 31°C
Sunshine: around 8 hours a day
While much of Thailand is in rainy season, Koh Samui is your golden spot. August brings warm weather and lower humidity. The beaches are calm, the food is incredible and the resorts know how to do relaxation properly. This is a great time for snorkelling, spa treatments and lazy afternoons in a hammock.
Perfect for honeymooners and tropical dreamers.
Bali, Indonesia

Average temperature: 29°C
Sunshine: around 9 hours a day
August is one of the best months to visit Bali. It’s dry, sunny and full of colour. From the rice terraces of Ubud to the surf beaches of Canggu and the sunset temples of Uluwatu, there is so much to explore. You can stay in a peaceful villa, join a wellness retreat or dive straight into the cultural heart of the island.
Perfect for couples, explorers and anyone chasing beauty and balance.
The Caribbean
Average temperature: 31°C
Sunshine: around 8 hours a day
Yes, it’s hurricane season, but many Caribbean islands still have fantastic weather in August. Islands like Barbados, St Lucia and Antigua often enjoy hot sunny days with only the occasional shower. Resorts are less crowded and prices can be more tempting. If you don’t mind the odd bit of rain, this can be the perfect time to go.
Perfect for romantic escapes, relaxed luxury and last minute getaways.
Cooler Alternatives for August

Not a fan of the heat. I get it. There are still amazing options. Think the fjords of Norway under the midnight sun; Canada’s west coast for whale watching and forest hikes; or northern Spain where you’ll find beautiful beaches, lush landscapes and fewer crowds.
Where to avoid in August
Middle Eastern cities like Dubai and Doha can hit forty degrees or more in August. Morocco and Egypt are also extremely hot. If you’re not used to it, it can be uncomfortable. Even southern Spain and parts of Greece can get heatwaves. If you’re heat-sensitive, I’ll help you find somewhere a little cooler but still full of sunshine and charm.
