About Nikki Curran

Hi, I'm Nikki Curran.

I am originally from Northern Ireland and now live on the Kent coast with my husband, Jonathan.

From an early age, I have always had an interest in travel and exploring new places. I loved our family holidays abroad or around Northern Ireland; I even enjoyed adventurous trips involving a bivvy bag in the Mountains of Mourne!

In 1992, I moved from Northern Ireland to Reading where I studied for four years, completing my Bachelors of Arts in Education.

Having a love of the sea, I ended up teaching in Kent for 15 years. Whilst I always loved teaching, I decided in 2011 that it was time for a change...

So Jonathan and I left teaching for the wedding industry! We trained as professional toastmasters for weddings and events, and won many awards as the best in Kent. We still love it all these years later.

With weddings comes honeymoons... and what better way to use my organisational skills, passion for travel and outstanding customer service? I trained to become a travel agent – not just for honeymoons and destination weddings, but for everything travel-related.

I worked alongside a friend who owned and ran her own travel agency. Then in May 2018, I felt it was the right time to go it alone and NC Travel was born.

Being in travel is so rewarding - from finding and booking the perfect holiday for my customers to meeting suppliers and developing my knowledge of products and destinations.

I am very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel to a wide variety of places and I have met so many amazing people along the way.

I have followed my dad’s philosophy in life which is “to enjoy every tick of the clock.” A perfect mantra to inspire me every day.

Where I've Been

Over the years, I have been blessed to have been able to visit some of the most beautiful places on earth, including Australia, Cuba, Dubai, Egypt, Mauritius, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Thailand, USA, UK and quite a bit of Europe.

And the best part is that there's still so much to explore!

I have been on river cruises and especially love the Danube; I have also experienced a wide selection of cruise ships and all they can offer.

My own holidays vary from exploring a destination to fly and flop for total R&R.

I love holidaying with friends and family as well as just the two of us. Being an ex-PE teacher, I really enjoy cycling, all water sports, walking, skiing and of course, the après!

My Favourite Places

Australia

Australia holds a special place in my heart. I love the pace of life, the people and the diversity of the country. My highlights are being in front of the Sydney Opera House for New Year's Eve fireworks, climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge and drinking a glass of fizz whilst watching the sun go down in the Whitsundays.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is such a gem of a destination. It has so much to offer, from exploring the many sights to lazing on the beach. I love the friendliness of people and the food is superb. My highlights include helping to wash an elephant in the river and climbing Sigiriya Rock in the early morning – the view was definitely worth getting up early for.

Egypt

Egypt, at just five hours away from home, is high up on my list. The Red Sea has some of the best snorkelling and diving outside of the Great Barrier Reef.

Mauritius

Mauritius is such a beautiful island. I was touched by how friendly the locals are and I felt really safe, out and about by myself. There is so much to see and do on the island. My wow moment was the option of a helicopter transfer. And I loved the rum tasting at Chamarel and the sunset catamaran cruise.

Cyprus

There is something quite charming about Cyprus. I love the beaches and the food. I love the traditional village of Kalavasos and the surrounding area.  There is such a laid back approach to life, and everyone stops to chat.

My Bucket List

Like so many people, I have a huge bucket list. To name a few...

  • I would love to explore Canada and see the whales and Northern Lights

  • As an animal lover, a safari is definitely high up on my to do list, as is seeing penguins in the Antarctic

  • I would also love to swim with dolphins and turtles in crystal clear water

  • Being the adventurous type, I also like to challenge myself, so climbing Kilimanjaro is also on my list
