When Alison got in touch to plan her honeymoon, I was thrilled. I've known her for years from my teaching days. She was a brilliant swimming instructor in Broadstairs, and now lives in Margate. Over time, I’ve had the pleasure of booking several of her holidays, so it was really special to be asked to help with this one.
We had a good chat about the kind of honeymoon they wanted. Something relaxing; somewhere they could unwind and enjoy being together after all the excitement of the wedding. We looked at a few different destinations and weighed up the options, but when Mauritius came up, it just clicked.
It had the dreamy, magical feel they were after, and as you’ll see from Alison’s blog below, it turned out to be absolutely perfect...
We wanted something special for our honeymoon but weren’t quite sure what that looked like, so we turned to Nikki at NC Travel. We’ve known Nikki for a long time as a friend, and we also knew that as a personal travel advisor, she’s incredibly knowledgeable, honest and reliable - just the kind of person you want planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip.
After plenty of chats and ideas, we settled on the stunning island of Mauritius and stayed at Victoria For 2 Beachcomber Resort & Spa on the northwest coast. We chose a swim-up room - the idea of swimming straight from our room to the bar for a cocktail was just too tempting to resist!
Our flight out was smooth and comfy, especially thanks to Nikki’s tip to ask for extra legroom at check-in. It worked!
Before the trip, we’d needed to change the original date, and although we were a bit anxious about it, Nikki sorted it all out calmly and efficiently. It was such a relief.
When we arrived, we were greeted by smiling staff, checked in with ease, and whisked away by golf buggy to our room, complete with a towel swan and a bottle of Champagne waiting for us. Such a lovely start.
The food was amazing, and we tried every single restaurant during our stay - each one was fabulous. Everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming.
While the swim-up room was fun, we did notice that the sun left our pool area quite early in the day because of the time of year. It didn’t spoil anything for us, but if you're booking, it might be worth checking the sun’s position if that matters to you, some rooms had more sunshine than ours.
We also ventured out on a couple of excursions - a brilliant catamaran trip (we had much better sea legs than most on board!) and a small boat tour with a local guide that took us close to the harbour to see the huge ships. Both were brilliant days out.

Nikki had chosen so well. The beach was picture-perfect, the accommodation was lovely, and even though there was some refurbishment work going on at the resort, it didn’t affect us at all. Nikki had checked with the hotel beforehand, and they’d reassured her - and they were right.
Mauritius was the perfect honeymoon destination, and knowing that Nikki had our backs - before, during and after - was such a comfort. She really did take all the stress out of the process.
One last tip: I packed too many shoes and too many clothes! The resort wasn’t overly dressy - just classy and relaxed - a bit like Mauritius itself.
Thank you, Nikki, for all your hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you.
