Whether you're an intrepid traveller looking for an adventure holiday close to nature or a curious wanderer, seeking distinctive experiences, the Veranda Tamarin Hotel is the ideal location for you!
Of all the hotels I have visited in Mauritius, this one was the most unusual. I was driving on the busy coast road between Port Loius and Grand Baie, when my sat nav said turn left down a narrow lane.
It seemed like a wrong turn between houses, but as I drove down it opened out onto a wide tranquil bay lined with trees, and in the centre was the Veranda Tamarin - a low rise building nestling in its surroundings.
The small boutique hotel has a retro 70s feel with a very laid back atmosphere. It even has several Mini Mokes for hire.
The apartments are well equipped and decorated in vibrant colours. There are various room categories, including superior and privilege upgrades.
We loved our room and felt a little like student backpackers on our first holiday together - romantic and carefree.
There are three eating and drinking areas. Our favourite was the terrace bar/ restaurant, where you could sit with a drink overlooking the bay.
In the hotel grounds are a pool, various seating areas, yoga venues as well as a harmony spa.
There are water sports such as kite surfing, scuba diving and sea kayaking, as well as a surf school; and a number of boats are available from the boathouse. You can also hire bikes.
Whilst others enjoyed the activities, we discovered the infinity pool on the roof with its own sunbeds and bar, and from there we could see the whole bay and watch the energetic visitors in the lagoon.
Tamarin is well worth a stay if you want to rediscover a simpler time when life was more innocent and you could slow down and enjoy your surroundings amongst the locals on this beautiful island.
A special touch in each room is the addition of a cool box and towels. Fill them with ice and drinks from the bar and make the most of a romantic day on the beach finishing off watching the sunset. Or if you plan on being out for the day, they are perfect for carrying.
The hotel will make packed lunches and food to take with you, adding to those memorable days out!
I love their Explorer concept where guests are given credit to use for activities and experiences around the island. The Explorer programme includes activities encompassing both culture, discovery, sports and adrenaline. You can also rent a car, try a scooter, ride a bike or use the hop on/ hop off shuttle service.
