Planning a trip to India soon? There is a new rule in place for all overseas visitors, and it is important you know about it before you travel.
From 1 October 2025, all overseas visitors to India must complete an online e-Arrival Card before travelling. This new rule has replaced the old paper disembarkation form and is designed to make immigration clearance faster and more convenient, according to India’s Bureau of Immigration.
The form is mandatory and must be filled in within 72 hours before arrival. You will need to provide details, such as passport number, nationality, purpose of visit, address in India and length of stay.
A digital copy of the completed form is accepted, though officials recommend keeping a printed copy handy for inspection if needed.
The requirement does not apply to Indian nationals or holders of an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card.
Please note, you must still hold a valid visa to enter the country.
