Heritage The Villas, Mauritius

Heritage The Villas is set in the sumptuous 2,500 hectares Domaine de Bel Ombre on the south coast of Mauritius.

We were fortunate to stay in a four bedroom pool villa on our recent trip.

I was very excited when I arrived at the reception to collect our keys. We had been told that the four bedroom luxury villa would be our home away from home, so the journey in the courtesy bus up the hillside was full of anticipation for what might await us.

As the bus stopped on the double driveway nestling beside the beautifully manicured gardens, we knew this was something special.

The villa blew us away as soon as we entered the large open plan lounge, dining and kitchen area. All fixtures and fittings were top of the range in tastefully decorated surroundings.

From the three sets of patio doors, we could see the private pool, large patio and enormous built-in BBQ beside the pergola large enough to sit eight people around the table.

Home from home! I don’t think so, as my house isn’t like this!

Each bedroom had an en-suite plus an outside shower, fitted wardrobes and a TV.

It took quite a while to explore the whole villa before deciding which bedroom we would use. We eventually chose the one with the balcony that overlooked the golf course which we could see through tropical trees and plants. The garden to the villa was large and very secluded, perfect for sunbathing, swimming and relaxing.

The villa had a well-appointed kitchen with two enormous fridge freezers, a dishwasher, washing machine and even a tumble dryer which we didn’t use because 32 degrees centigrade just calls for clothes to be pegged outside. In fact this was the first holiday that we came home from with all our clothes clean.

Whilst the villas can be booked on various board basis, including all-inclusive, we chose self-catering as we were there for a month! Shopping from the villas is really easy as there is a large supermarket 10-15 minute drive away (via taxi or hire car) or there is a small shop on site that was helpful for bread, water and various meats as required.

In the evenings, we headed off in our golf buggy to the bars of Heritage Awali and Heritage Le Telfair. As villa guests, we were able to enjoy the top-class services and amenities of these two 5-star resorts on the Domaine, which includes 12 restaurants and bars, a fabulous beach club and the Heritage golf course.

Our favourite bars were Infinity Blue at Heritage Awali, which was on the beach, and the Cavendish Bar, located in Heritage Le Telfair, which was colonial in appearance and ambience.

I felt very relaxed from day one and soon settled into a daily routine of exercise, going out on visits, reading, working and enjoying the facilities of the hotels and beach club.

I would return time and time again unless of course back home I build a pool, pergola, built-in BBQ, re-decorate, change the furniture, buy bigger fridges, add two more bathrooms and guarantee 32 degrees sunshine every day in the tropical gardens around my house. That’s not going to happen so I will return to Heritage The Villas in Mauritius where I know it can happen.

I would recommend the independence and privacy of these wonderful villas to families, groups of friends and golfers.

The villas are beautifully located in the Domaine and offer a genuine oasis of serenity with a perfect blend of luxury, simplicity and warmth. The villas are all unique and are available in 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms.

There is something for everyone within the Domaine. You can swim, sail, kite or just relax by one of the pools; you can enjoy yoga in the on-site nature reserve or a round of golf on a European Tour branded golf course. The wide selection of land and water based activities is sure to entertain the most adventurous types.
