The Canonnier Beachcomber Golf Resort & Spa is built on an historical peninsular on the north west coast overlooking the Indian Ocean. The resort is approximately an hour and 10-minute drive from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport.
The hotel's unique features include a lighthouse and a fortress that blends in excellently with the more modern restaurants, bars and accommodation.
The 17 acres of gardens create a quiet tranquil environment in which the newly decorated rooms and suites are situated. There is a choice of three restaurants and assorted bars that cater for all the family.
Many hotels offer spa treatments but none quite like the Canonnier because here the spa is actually built within the branches of an enormous Banyan Tree that is over 200 years old. To receive treatments here is really rather special.
In this family-friendly hotel, the children are well catered for, with their own pool, kids club, buffet and seating area. In addition to the very safe beach, there is a main pool plus cascading pools and water features for everyone to enjoy.
Canonnier offers a wide range of complimentary land and water-based activities as well as access to two 18 hole par 72 golf courses.
When I visited, not only did I enjoy the hotel facilities, but also its location with its interchangeable links to other nearby Beachcomber hotels, The Mauricia and The Victoria, and its proximity to local towns such as Trou aux Biches and Grand Baie.
This allows guests to travel beyond the hotel and experience the local community. Something I did on numerous occasions, allowing me to really get to know the paradise that is Mauritius.
